Project designed with Josep Pla i de Solà-Morales.
The proposal starts from two basic main lines: the accessibility to all the spaces of the existing building and the complicity of the new building in shaping the new courtyard.
The current staircase volume is removed and substituted by a continuous attached corridor which allows the access to all levels but at the same time guarantees the independence between spaces. The new layout works as a gallery for the existing Pia Almoina building, besides it has the functions of serving space –vertical and horizontal communications, entrances, climatic control, services layout, fire escapes, etc.-. This organization in serving and served spaces allows future use changes between different spaces and levels.
